Legislation

On 1st December 2003 the Government intoduced legislation that makes it an offence to use a hand-held phone, or similar device, when driving.

The penalty is a £30 fixed or up to £1,000 on conviction in court (£2,500 for drivers of goods vehicles, buses or coaches).

The legislation makes it illegal for you to use a phone if you hold it at any point whilst using it.  Pushing buttons on a phone whilst it is in a cradle is not an offence.

To ensure that you are using your mobile safely in your vehicle and staying on the 'right' side of the Law, please see our range of mobile phone mounts and headsets.

For further information regarding the legislation, see the RAC website
